Workpackage No: 5

Title: Development/Testing and fine-tuning of the BISNET classification system

Duration: 3 months

Start month: 9 End month: 11

Initial state of work, preconditions for starting, & objectives:

The aim of WP5 is to test the classification system developed in WP5 out in the field.

In particular, the test will involve different categories of information selected from the databases owned by DEI, WEKA and ARGE. The efficacy and automaticity of the process will also be verified.

QUASCO will be responsible for the coordination and monitoring of the results whereas the other partners will be called upon to test out the classification system for cataloguing the sample information selected from the data contained in the partners' databases.

The partners are under the duty of informing Quasco about any inconsistency detected in the classification system and any malfunctioning or any problems in the automaticity of the operations. The costs involved will also be monitored.

Verification will occur according to a step-wise procedure consisting of small steps with the possibility of making adjustments at each step, tuning the system as it is tested out.

In this way the final classification system resulting from this process will be endowed with the level of accuracy required by the BISNET partners.

WP5 will last three months and will begin once WP4 has been completed.

At least two meetings are to take place which will be attended by all the BISNET partners as well as by experts who are to give a technical contribution to the work in progress.

The deliverable that WP5 is to produce is a final classification system that the first group of BISNET partners can use in the subsequent WP for cataloguing the information contained in their databases.

Responsible for WP: QUASCO

Tasks:

5.1 Develop the classification criteria for the DEI, WEKA and ARGE databases on the basis of the prototype developed in WP4.

5.2 Selection of a significant sample of information from each of the DEI, WEKA and ARGE databases

5.3 Classification, computerized if possible, of the selected sample of information and evaluation of problems, if any.

5.4 Working out a solution to the problems encountered and reiteration of tasks 5.1 through 5.3 until an acceptable level of accuracy is achieved.

5.5 Validation of the classification system and of the criteria of applicability to the DEI, WEKA and ARGE databases through one or more meetings convening the BISNET partners.

Deliverables:

1. Classification system to be used on the BISNET platform in English, German, Italian

2. Criteria for the classification of the information contained in the DEI, WEKA and ARGE databases using the BISNET classification system.
