Title: Monitoring of Classification Systems and of Databases in the Building Sector in EU Countries

Initial state of work, preconditions for starting, & objectives:

The main goal of BISNET is to create a common platform for providing access to technical civil engineering data and for its marketing within the E.U. By means of a common classification system the BISNET platform will provide for the interconnection of similar information stored in different languages and in different databases.

The common classification system will be selected and perfected in WP4 but it will have to be preceded by the collection of adequate documentation and by the knowledge of the state-of-the-art of classification systems and specialized databases in the building sector in the different EU countries.

WP3 will focus on the collection of information on existing classification systems and on specialized databases. The WP3 activities will be coordinated and run by Quasco and therefore all the original documents pertaining to the WP3 activities will be kept in Bologna. In particular, through task 3.1, WP3 will provide for the monitoring activities in the countries where the BISNET partners are based; this means Italy, Germany, Austria, and France utilizing the relations and the knowledge held by each partner (DEI, QUASCO, WEKA, ARGE). Later, through task 3.2, a thorough survey will be made in the remaining countries of the EU (in dependence of available relationships and time); in particular thanks to the relationships existing between QUASCO and the other BISNET partners on the one hand and the following specialized centres in the building sector: CSTC-Belgium, AB-SVENKBYGGTJANST Sweden, DTI OF BUILDING TECHNOLOGY Denmark, EOLAS-Ireland, NORWEGIAN INSTITUTE OF WOOD TECHNOLOGY Norway and/or other centres which may join in the future as contacts are made.

Parallel to tasks 3.1 and 3.2, under task 3.3 experts in the classification of products of the building sector will be contacted so as to be able to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each classification system being monitored, jointly with the other partners.

WP3 will be coordinated by QUASCO and will involve DEI, WEKA, ARGE for monitoring activities in Italy, Germany, Austria and France as well as experts in the sector for the evaluation of the characteristics of the classification systems being monitored.

Tasks:

3.1 Monitoring of the classification systems and of the data bases containing data on products of the building sector in Italy, Germany, Austria and France.

3.2 Monitoring of the classification systems and of the databases containing information on products of the building sector in the other EU Countries.

3.3 Joint evaluation by all BISNET partners, with the assistance of experts, of the classification systems that are monitored within WP3.

Deliverables:

1. Summary report of the monitoring and evaluation of the classification systems for civil engineering products existing in the EU Countries.
